Just got a 2013 Fiat 500 today, was beyond excited about getting the car. Every time I start the car it brings up a 'Check Engine Start & Stop Unavailable' warning I called the dealer a bit concerned and he's told me it's normal, all these types of cars do it, that the battery wasn't charged up enough yet or the water wasn't hot.

It wasnt a problem with the car engine at all, it was the computer firing false faults about the car, which put it in limp home mode, engine warning light and start stop unavailable. Stop/start hasn't worked for a week or so, and I've had a couple of kangarooing events in 2nd gear. Today, after a decent run, without headlamps on, the yellow triangle and stop/start symbols lit up, with a stop/start unavailable message. I've checked a couple of threads, and the battery sounds like the likely culprit.

Posted August 2, 2021. Looking for some advice on a Fiat 500 1.2 petrol convertible with a start stop issue. After driving the car for about 5-6 miles the S start stop disconnected light comes on the dash together with a warning triangle. When you drive it from cold and stall it intentionally the SS works ok but won't come on a junctions etc.

But worse,once restarted ( with the 3 associated stop/start yellow warning lights on ) once you stop in traffic again the rev counter shoots up 500rpm and you have no power to pull away- you then have to turn off ignition and turn back on and the car pulls away .. However my car keeps saying that the start-stop is unavailable which triggers a warning light. I do keep taking the car on long journeys and because of my new position the car does go on the motorway often.

The stop/start stopped operating a few weeks ago, but worked again after a couple of longer runs, albeit the engine only stopped for around 20s. The last time this happened was in a queue, then after a further minute of being stationary with the engine running, the engine switched off with the message "Stop Start Unavailable" displayed.
